A single feature wall is the usual entry point, and costs vary from the washes at the accessible end through to polished plaster and liquid metals at the premium end. How do I choose between the finishes?
Start with the feeling you want — soft and mineral (lime wash), warm and cloudy (French wash), polished stone (Fresco), real metal (copper, gold, iron), tactile texture (stone paint), silk sheen (Duchess Satin, Industrial Lustre) or full gilt (gold & silver). Can these finishes go over existing painted walls?
In most cases yes, with the right preparation — that's the make-or-break of decorative work. Some finishes need a mineral base coat, others need Level 5 plastering; we assess the substrate first and our own Gib and plastering team builds whatever base the finish demands.
Do you work with interior designers and architects?
All the time — designers and architects specify a finish and need an Auckland applicator who can actually deliver it. We sample, price from plans, and work directly with your client or through you. Porter's-trained, Master Painters accredited, $10m insured.
Should I do one feature wall or a whole room?
Usually one considered wall — decorative finishes are strongest in deliberate doses, and one wall done properly changes how the whole room reads. Washes like lime wash and French wash also work beautifully across whole rooms; the bolder finishes (metals, gilt, rust) almost always want a single surface. We'll advise honestly for your space.
How durable are decorative finishes?
Properly applied and sealed, very — most of these finishes age and patina rather than wear out, and several (stone paint, the sheens, Aquagild) are tough enough for commercial spaces. Each finish page covers its own durability and care, and we include care guidance at handover.
