What is a liquid metal finish — and why is it nothing like metallic paint?
Liquid metal finishes suspend genuine metal — copper, warm liquid gold, or iron — in the coating itself. Once applied, we develop a living patina by hand: copper can be kept bright or aged into a blue-green verdigris; iron is rusted into warm oranges and browns; gold reads as deep, reflective real metal, not gold-effect paint.
Because it's real metal, the wall behaves like real metal. It catches and releases light as you move through the room, shifts through the day, and carries the kind of depth a printed or painted "metallic effect" can't imitate. Every wall patinas slightly differently — yours is the only one like it.

Is it really metal, or just metallic paint?
Really metal. The Porter's system suspends genuine copper, gold or iron particles in the coating — which is why we can develop a true patina afterwards. Verdigris on copper and rust on iron are real chemical reactions with real metal, not printed or painted effects. That's also why it catches light the way metal does.
Can I choose how aged or bright the patina is?
Yes — that's the craft. Copper can be kept bright and burnished, lightly aged, or taken to a full blue-green verdigris; iron rust can be subtle or dramatic. We develop samples first, you approve the exact look, and we stop the reaction at that point and seal it in place.
Will the patina keep changing over time?
No — once you approve the patina, we seal the surface to lock it in. The finish is stable, durable and made to hold the exact look you chose for years. Unsealed, real metal would keep reacting — the sealing step is what makes it a finish rather than an experiment.
