Our story
Built on a simple idea: painting should be craft, not just coverage.
Key Painting was founded by Max Key and Shaun Lian — Max bringing the business systems and design eye behind the Key Co family of companies, Shaun bringing more than 12 years of hands-on painting mastery. Together: a company that runs like a business and finishes like an artisan.
We built our name on flawless residential and commercial work across Auckland — then went deeper, training in the Porter's Paints decorative system: lime wash, polished plaster, liquid metals, gilding. The finishes most painters can't offer became our specialty, and today homeowners, designers and architects come to us for walls nobody else can do.
The standard hasn't changed since day one: proper prep, premium materials, and a walkthrough at the end where we don't leave until you're happy. That's why Resene gives us their highest accreditation, why Master Painters lets us wear their badge — and why most of our work now comes from referrals.
